Data breaches involving financial motives are similar to, yet different from, those involving espionage motives. In

this session, Verizon – producers of the annual Data Breach Investigations Report – will compare and contrast

financially motivated and espionage motivated data breaches. Verizon will present this session through the lens of

the VERIS – Vocabulary for Event Recording and Information Sharing – Framework and will specifically leverage the

A4 Threat Model: Actors, Actions, Attributes, and Assets, and in doing so, highlight key controls to counter data

breaches.
